I believe a lot of people like me have no idea what Keurig 2.0 5 Froth is and what it is for.
I have been using the Keurig coffee maker at least for 10 years now. The current one is a Keurig 2.0 I bought about 5 years ago when my first Keurig was broken.
99% of my use of the Keurig machine uses the default option, you put a pod in, close the lid then make a choice between 4 – 12 oz size, and if you like, there is a “Strong” option box to tick.
What is this: Keurig 2.0 5 Froth?
Recently, I started to use the reusable k cups and suddenly the touchscreen interface showed me all the options. In total, this Keurig 2.0 coffee maker has six preferred brew settings, which you can use with your K-carafe or other coffee cups.
Out of these six options, setting 5, froth is the one that intrigues me the most, because the other 5 options are all straightforward and intuitive by design.
Setting 5 though, let’s call it Keurig 2.0 5 Froth, when you select it, the screen appears with “STEP 1 FROTH” and a cup size of 4 oz. I use this option to brew my own ground coffee using the reusable k cup.
After 2 weeks of testing the “STEP 1 FROTH”, I thought there must be a “STEP 2” then. I inserted the reusable k cup with my own Malaysian liberica coffee ground using “STEP 1 FROTH”.
When this step was done, the screen showed “Just Frothing? or continue to Step 2”, below it on the left there was the option “YES, DONE”, and on the right was the option “CONTINUE”.
Pressed “CONTINUE”, and the next screen showed the prompt “Lift to Insert Step-2 Pack”, so I lifted the handle and closed it without changing anything since I had no clue what the “Step-2 Pack” was.
Then the screen showed “STEP 2 BREW”. Interestingly, this time, below this prompt, on the left, there was an option for “STRONG”.
I selected this “STRONG” option, and while it was brewing, I noticed the amount of liquid streamed down was not as much as “Step 1”, also “Step 1” had no such option for the “STRONG” selection.
To figure out what exactly Keurig 2.0 5 Froth was supposed for, I made an extensive search on the internet.
That was my epiphany moment: the “STEP 1” was for milk or creamer powder cup to be frothed first! That is why it has no “STRONG” selection in this “STEP 1” since you cannot make creamer or milk powder any stronger with this coffee maker.
So, here is the right sequence for using Keurig 2.0 5 Froth
Step 1:
Place the “Step 1” cup into the machine, and it will typically froth milk powder or contain ingredients (creamer or alikes) for specialty coffee beverages like lattes or cappuccinos.
Once the “Step 1” brewing is complete, remove the “Step 1” cup.
Step 2:
Place the “Step 2” cup into the machine, select your desired brewing strength, which includes the option “strong”, and brew your coffee.
This step completes your beverage by adding the brewed coffee to the frothed milk or coffee creamer created in the previous step.

After my exhausting search on the internet, I could not find any information regarding this Keurig 2.0 5 Froth function.
So I posted this article to share what I learned over the last couple of weeks.
That’s said. However, please consult your specific Keurig 2.0 model’s instructions for the most accurate information on how to use these two-step brewing processes with Vue cups.
Your machine’s user manual will provide you with precise details on the functionalities of your particular model.
