How to make macchiato at home without an espresso machine

You can use a French press to make macchiato at home without an espresso maker.
Use French Press To Make Macchiato At Home

Method 1: Using strong brewed coffee

  1. Brew a strong cup of coffee. You can use a Moka pot, Aeropress, or even a French press to make macchiato at home. Aim for a concentrated shot of coffee, around 1 ounce (30-40ml).
  2. Heat and froth the milk. You can do this in a saucepan on the stovetop, using a handheld milk frother, or even with a whisk! Just heat the milk until warm and frothy, but not boiling.
  3. Assemble your macchiato. Pour the coffee shot into a small glass or mug. Gently spoon or pour the frothed milk on top, creating a thin layer of foam.

Method 2: Using instant coffee

  1. Dissolve 3-4 teaspoons of instant coffee in hot water. Use a strong instant coffee and mix it with around 1 ounce (30-40ml) of hot water.
  2. Froth the milk. Same as method 1.
  3. Assemble your macchiato. Pour the coffee mixture into a small glass or mug. Gently spoon or pour the frothed milk on top, creating a thin layer of foam.
  4. This is another way to make macchiato at home, much easier.

Tips To Make Macchiato At Home Without an Espresso Machine

  • For a sweeter macchiato, add a teaspoon of sugar or flavored syrup to the coffee before adding the milk.
  • You can also get creative with the toppings! Drizzle some caramel sauce, and chocolate syrup, or sprinkle on some cinnamon for an extra flavor.
  • If you want a hotter macchiato, heat the glass or mug before adding the coffee and milk.
  • Experiment with different coffee strengths and milk frothing techniques to find your perfect macchiato.

No fancy equipment is needed, just a little bit of ingenuity and you can enjoy a barista-worthy macchiato right in your own home!
